It was a little difficult to decipher. Be it known that Christopher Hiatt of the State of North Carolina and the County of Guilford leaves the following as his will viz: I desire in the first place that my just debts be paid and my will and desire is that all my land may be equally and properly divided into four parts to the best advantage and conveniency for four of my sons and that my son John Hiatt may have the improvement where I now live and I will that my dear wife Lydia Hiatt may have her maintenance with ---- (john?) while she remains the widow of me and I desire that my son Asher Hiatt may have the corner whereon he now lives and there being three sons more and but two parts of land therefore it is my will that two may have the land and that Asher, John and the two who have the land should make up fifty pounds to the one that has --- ---- being supposed (?) to be equal in value to the one part of land John Hiatt paying one third part and the other three an equal part of the remainder and ---- son being ---- ---- last mentioned is to have his choice of the one part of land or the fifty pounds and ---- Hiatt the next oldest in like manner to have his choice and Christopher Hiatt may have the remainder either money or land and it is my desire that my dear wife have her horse bridle and saddle during life and one ----chest and ovel table and one --- to her during her widowhood and then the ovel tale and pot is for my daughter Esther Hiatt -st to my daughter Lydia Hiatt and it is my desire that my daughter Esther should ---- and feather bed and furniture and the youngest horse colt and white cow and calf and I desire that my son Christopher Hiatt shall have the hand irons. Enos Hiatt was born March 2, 1774 in Guilford County, North Carolina. It was reported that somewhere around 1800, Enos, Joseph, Isaac, Catherine, and Rebecca still lived in Guilford County, North Carolina.Enos married Lydia Sullen by a marriage bond February 2,1799 in Guilford County.{Enos and Lydia moved from Stokes County, North Carolina to Hiattsville in 1843-1844. They cames to Iowa with a wagon train of 85 or more people to the Iowa Territory.They crossed the Mississippi at Burlington where the "Five Black House" were located. They traveled 25 miles and stayed about two years, while the scouts went south to find a place that looked like North Carolina. They felt Henry County was to flat.
